Nvidia RTX 3090, $ 340,000 worth of cards stolen from MSI in China
As if the situation regarding the availability of Nvidia GPUs wasn't bad enough on its own, now the thieves are in it too. RTX 3090s with a total value of about $ 340,000 would have been stolen directly from MSI. Will the situation recover sooner or later?

As notified by MSI to the local police, it appears that 40 "pallets" (cargo boxes) of Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090 graphics cards have been stolen from the Taiwanese company in a factory on Chinese territory.

The cards would have a total value of 336,500 dollars and in order to find them, MSI would have promised a reward of 100,000 yuan (almost 13,000 euros) for anyone with useful information about their current position. MSI would also promise leniency for any participant in the theft who decides to come forward, as long as it helps find the cards.

MSI said the factory's entire shipping zone is controlled by a system of video surveillance and that incoming or outgoing trucks are often monitored. The company therefore suspects that one or more people normally authorized to enter the plant are behind the theft.

Unfortunately for us, it makes a lot of sense for criminals to steal Nvidia's top-of-the-line graphics cards in this historical moment. The Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090s are still incredibly rare at retail due to high demand, and many of the purchasable cards are still sold way above the MSRP.

This makes the RTX 3090 and other GPUs of the present day incredibly valuable generation as they can be resold at insane prices due to customer desperation. Let's hope the police can get to the bottom of the matter and find the graphics cards before the thieves manage to sell them.

Fortunately, this regrettable fact shouldn't upset the market too much. Doing some quick calculations, the amount of missing RTX 3090 would come to about 220 units. Fortunately, this is only one batch and no similar incidents have been recorded with the other AIB partners.
