Foldables will become 10 times more popular: all the big names are expected

(Photo: Huawei) Foldable smartphones have made their debut almost as an exercise in style, but in recent years they have reserved a small slice of the market that is destined to increase tenfold over the next two years. This is confirmed by a recent survey by Counterpoint Research, which predicted a steady growth of models with flexible screens.

According to the data presented in the study, the growth from 2020 to 2021 will be triple up to a total of 9 millions of devices delivered to lay the groundwork towards a 10x leap by 2023 - interestingly, Samsung will have almost a monopoly on the market, with 88% of the pie. On the other hand, it is the company that is investing most in this segment and we are five days away from the debut of the new generation of Samsung folding folders which will be the protagonist of the Unpacked event on August 11th.

In addition to the top of Galaxy Fold 3 range that will bring many of the technologies and features of the Note family (starting from the stylus) there will also be the Flip 3 shell. The South Koreans were the first of the big names (after Royole Flexpai) to break the delay on a global scale, followed by Huawei's Mate X and Motorola which has focused on the vintage charm of the Razr.

Other manufacturers are expected at the gate, with the Chinese from Oppo and Xiaomi who have been at the center of the rumors for some time. For the former, it is reasonable to expect a flagship, perhaps with some gems such as the camera under the display. For the latter, the wait is also due to the well-known low profit margin, which in complex models such as leaflets makes it more difficult to exit if not with mature technology.

If the market really increases tenfold, then the chances of seeing even a foldable Google Pixel up to the chimera of the foldable iPhone could be greater.
