The first of the long line of clues that are coming forward online is the fact that Nintendo Direct has traditionally been held around this time since 2016. Adding meat to the fire is the need for the announcement of a new fighter in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Fighter Pass Vol. 2, as the latest was revealed 3 months ago. In addition, several first party titles on Nintendo Switch are expected between September and October such as WarioWare Get it Together and Metroid Dread, of which we had a gameplay trailer last week, which will be launched on October 8, the same day as the Nintendo Switch OLED.
To be honest, the rumors about September's Direct were already there since the beginning of August, in which the focuses on WarioWare, Metroid Dread, Advance Wars and Mario Party Superstars were discussed. Nintendo Direct has traditionally been held in the first week of September, so an announcement could really be imminent. There was, however, an exception in 2020, due to the slowdowns caused by the pandemic, with a Nintendo Direct Mini airing mid-month.
In the meantime, there are self-styled leakers who advance dates: those who say September 4th, those who say 9th and who even 10th, the day of release of the new WarioWare. The mere fact that historically for years there has always been a Nintendo Direct in the month of September does not necessarily mean there will be such an event again this year, but it certainly is a statistic that gives good hope.
