Announced with great fanfare during the presentation of the new course of the DC Universe, Superman: Legacy immediately jumped to the top of the ranking of the most anticipated films of the coming years. The project will bring to the big screen a new iteration of the man of steel, much younger than in the past, and will be written and directed by James Gunn. The director also wanted to share with fans the special meaning behind the release date chosen for the film.

James Gunn will write and direct Superman: Legacy

I will be directing Superman: Legacy, which hits theaters on July 11, 2025. My brother Matt cried as soon as he heard the release date and I asked him why. I didn't realize it was our father's birthday. I lost him almost three years ago and he was my best friend. He didn't understand me much growing up, but he has always supported my love of comics and movies. I wouldn't be here doing this project if it weren't for him.

--> Initially it was thought that James Gunn would be limited only to writing the screenplay for the film, but the rumors that saw him busy directing have become increasingly insistent in recent weeks. Gunn had been offered the chance to direct a Superman movie before, but he decided to focus on The Suicide Squad, later expanding it into the Peacemaker TV series. As already confirmed several times in the new Superman there will be no room for Henry Cavill, who has definitively closed with the DC world after the brief cameo in Black Adam.
