Cooler Master turns the Framework Laptop into a desktop

Framework is a well-known company that develops modular laptops, with the aim of creating products that can last over time and should not be thrown away after a few years. In collaboration with Cooler Master, the company has created a transparent case that transforms an old motherboard from a Framework Laptop into a real desktop PC. However, it requires some additional parts to work, such as a USB-C PD charger and a USB-C cable for the monitor , and it has the same expansion slots as the 13.5″ Framework Laptop , so you can add storage, USB ports, Ethernet, HDMI, and more.

Framework wants its customers to not only buy new components but continue to use the old ones. In this sense, the company is working to open the design documentation around the display and the battery, so that users can reuse them and thus favoring the circular economy.

If instead you opt only for the plastic case, you will need to add the Wi-Fi antenna, the Wi-Fi card and the 3.5mm audio jack module of the Framework Laptop. The case can be wall mounted and the mounting screws stored in the base. Finally, Framework presented the proof-of-concept of a case for old notebook batteries, which could turn them into a USB-C charger for other devices.

Earlier today, we reported that Framework also unveiled its first AMD and Intel Core Raptor Lake motherboards for Laptop 13 and a new 16-inch display laptop with a larger expansion bay and the ability to upgrade to discrete graphics. For more information, please read our previous article .
