General strike on March 8: the cities and services involved

General strike on March 8

Against the wage gap, violence against women and the constant attacks on the right to abortion, grassroots unions have called a general strike for Wednesday, March 8, 2023, on the occasion of International Women's Day. Workers from Cub, Cobas, Si Cobas, Slai Cobas, Sgb, Usb and Us will join the mobilization.

The cities in which mobilizations have been announced so far are:

The sectors involved Rome Milan and Lombardy Naples Bologna The other strikes in March The strike will last 24 hours and will involve both civil servants and those in the private sector, disruptions also expected in the health sector, where, however, minimum services will be guaranteed. In particular, however, it will be the transport sector that will be affected, with the stop of the public service.

The sectors involved

Rail transport will not be guaranteed from midnight to 9pm on 8 March, for members of the Transport Cub it will last 24 hours starting from midnight, as well as for the local public transport which, however, will follow different methods depending on the area. The connection from the mainland to the major and minor islands was also stopped for 24 hours, as were the motorway personnel.

Rome

Atac, Cotral, Astral and Rome Tpl will stop for the whole 24 hours of 8 March, except for the guarantee bands, before 8.30 and between 17 and 20. School transport will also not be guaranteed, while for rail transport the stop of staff for the whole day, until 21, seems to be confirmed .

Milan and Lombardy

Both ATM and Trenord vehicles will be stopped for 24 hours and Autostrade personnel will also be involved in the agitation.

Naples

Even in Naples school transport will not be guaranteed and the 24-hour stop should involve all the workers of the Anm company, therefore also for the subway and the funiculars .

Bologna

The Tper vehicles of the Bologna service docks are also stopped, from 8.30 to 16.30 and from 19.30 at the end of the service.

The unions have not yet provided precise information relating to the strike in other cities, but it is probable that the mobilization will involve transport throughout the national territory.

The other strikes in March

From 5pm on 2 March to 5pm of March 3, the technical flight crew of Poste Air Cargo, the Italian air operator for the transport of goods and mail, will go on strike.

On March 3, however, there will be the mobilization of Fridays For Future, which has launched a new global climate strike around the world.

Finally, on 17 March all male and female workers in the aviation, airport and related airport sectors will go on strike, including the staff of the National Civil Aviation Authority (ENAC).
