How To Defeat Shiny Druddigon in 'Pokemon GO's' Dragonspiral Descent Event

As part of its new 'Dragonspiral Descent' event, Pokemon GO is offering players the chance to catch a Druddigon. Here are the most effective tactics for getting your hands on this latest addition to the game's roster.

The ongoing Dragonspiral Descent event is explicitly focused on fifth-generation characters that can be found in Pokemon Black and White. Most of the iconic monsters here are already featured elsewhere in Pokemon GO, but they have been made more prolific for the duration of the event.

There is one newcomer to the game, however, in the form of Druddigon. This dragon-type Pokemon is known for residing in caves, for its keen predatory instincts and for its near-impenetrable armor.

There are currently three different ways that you can catch a Druddigon in Pokemon GO before the Dragonspiral Descent event closes. According to the official blog post by developer Niantic, the creature is offered as both a reward for completing field research tasks and for finishing a special collection challenge.

Yet the easiest way to capture a Druddigon is to simply defeat it in combat during a 3-star raid battle. This is especially true if you want the shiny variant, as they spawn more commonly in raids then they do out in the wild.

Here is everything you need to know about besting this opponent.

Shiny Druddigon Strengths and Weaknesses in 'Pokemon GO'

Given that it is unlocked by participating in 3-star raids (as opposed to the tougher 5-star or 'Mega' equivalents), Druddigon is not the most formidable enemy in the game.

It can be comfortably defeated by a pair of trainers, or even just a lone wolf if they are adequately prepared. Speaking of which, it is important to note the resistances and vulnerabilities of the dragon before you challenge it to a fight.

You will discover that fire, water, grass and electric moves are largely ineffective against Druddigons, so you are better off restoring to other kinds of attacks. Specifically, you will want to prioritize the use of ice, dragon and fairy damage, as any of these will make short work of your foe.

Other Dragon-types are ideal candidates for challenging Druddigons, with good examples including Salamence, Dragonite, Rayquaza, Haxorus, Garchomp and Zekrom. The latter can be particularly effective if you make use of its Dragon Breath, Dragon Tail, Outrage and Dragon Claw moves.

Alternatively, Kyurem, Mamoswine and Darmanitan (using Ice Fang and Avalanche) can inflict devastating Ice damage, while either Xerneas or Sylveon have you covered from the fairy side of things.

How Long Have You Got Left To Get a Shiny Druddigon?

The Dragonspiral Descent event began on December 7 at 10 a.m. local time and will last until 8 p.m. on Sunday, December 12.

This gives you just under a week to beat a shiny Druddigon in one of the 3-star raids before you miss your shot.
