Killer Instinct on Xbox Series X

Killer Instinct could return to Xbox Series X | S with a new chapter, perhaps specifically next gen, at least in the intentions of Microsoft, which however seems to be unable to find a development team capable of taking care of development.

This is not official information but what is reported in the Xbox Two podcast by Jez and Rand, or the journalist Jez Corden of Windows Central and the youtuber Rand Al Thor 19. These are therefore rumors, which however we can take into consideration in how much the sources, and in particular the podcast in question, have shown in the past to be quite close to the issues of Microsoft and Xbox.

The fact is that the solution of the case does not seem simple: Microsoft wants a new Killer Instinct, which is also understandable considering the success of the chapter for Xbox One (obviously also playable on Xbox Series X | S) and the importance it holds, as the only first party fighting game, within the system. ema of genres for Xbox exclusives.

The problem is that it does not seem possible to find any developer capable of taking the project forward: the previous chapters on Xbox One were developed first by Double Helix and then by Iron Galaxy, but both teams are not available at the moment, with the latter busy in other projects and the former acquired by Amazon Games Studios.

Considering the specific experience required for the development of a fighting game, it is not easy to assign it to any team and there seem to be no studios currently available to take over the project. One possibility could be the formation of a specific team for Killer Instinct within Xbox Games Studios, but that's not easy, probably. We will however see, in the meantime, we have seen the whole history of the series in an interesting documentary.
