Mass Effect: BioWare wanted to make a Han Solo-inspired spin-off from Star Wars
Dorian Kieken, former developer at BioWare, has revealed that the Canadian software house has in the past seriously considered the possibility of creating a spin-off of the beloved Mass Effect series, which from next May will return more sparkling than ever thanks to the Legendary Edition.

Speaking to The Gamer microphones, Kieken stated that, following the publication of the progenitor of the Sci-Fi saga, the studio thought of giving life to a secondary episode that could have as protagonist a character inspired by Han Star Wars Solo:

"We explored a concept in 2008, shortly after the release of the first game, where you would play as a Han Solo-style character in a Star Control-inspired, universe-based title. of Mass Effect. The game would have the task of expanding the narrative universe and would be developed in parallel with the trilogy.

I like the idea of exploring a 'more gray' character, similar to a smuggler or a pirate in the ME universe. It also allows you to observe the game world from a different point of view from that of the chosen super soldier. It's a bit like exploring the Star Wars universe without being a Jedi, or the Warhammer 40k universe without being a Space Marine.

I think having more 'gray' types of characters, who cannot be called good or bad, and who are not part of any of the main factions like that of the pirates, allows you to enjoy of a wide freedom that you do not have when you are the savior of the galaxy. Think of the narrative freedom you have in TV series like Mandalorian or Firefly thanks to mercenaries or smuggler character archetypes ".
