Words Bubble Up Like Soda Pop: the trailer for the new animated film from Netflix

Words Bubble Up Like Soda Pop

Words Bubble Up Like Soda Pop (Cider no you ni Kotoba ga Wakiagaru) is the new original animated film produced by Flying Dog (Aria, Sengoku Basara).

Netflix has started broadcasting a trailer subtitled in English for the film that will be released on July 22 for subscribers to the video on demand service, simultaneously with its release in cinemas in Japan.

Words Bubble Up Like Soda Pop : A Bubbly and Fun New Movie Coming

Words Bubble Up Like Soda Pop commemorates the 10th anniversary of Victor Entertainment's animation and music production company Flying Dog.

Kyōhei Ishiguro (April Lies, Occultic; Nine) is directing the anime at Signal.MD and Sublimation. Dai Sato (Eureka Seven, Wolf's Rain, Samurai Champloo, Cowboy Bebop) is writing the script and Yukiko Aikei (April Lies, Accel World) is drawing the characters. Composer Kensuke Ushio (DEVILMAN crybaby, Space Dandy, A Silent Voice) is making the music.

This is the key visual:

Here is a short synopsis:

The boy-meets-girl story describes how words and music bridge the gap between Cherry, a boy who is terrible at communicating with other people, and Smile, a girl who hides behind a mask. They meet in a banal suburban mall in a provincial town.

Cherry always wears headphones and puts the feelings she can't express into her hobby of hers, Japanese haiku poems. Smile always wears a mask to hide her large front teeth, for which she has braces. As a popular video star, she airs a video about the search for “cuteness”.

Below you can watch the trailer:

Kyōhei Ishiguro had previously announced, during the screening of the film at the Tokyo International Film Festival last November, that the film would be released on June 25, later than the original date of May 15 due to the state of emergency against the spread of COVID-19.

We recommend the purchase of Stray, in a collector's box, available on Amazon!

Netflix gives us a delightful look as Words Bubble Up Like Soda Pop

It’s been about a year since the first look Words Bubble Up Like Soda Pop came to us, and that teaser has been pulled. Now, though, Netflix is finally ready to show us.

The anime is the story of a girl called Smile who’s shy about…. that’s right, her smile. She has braces, so she wears a mask to hide them. It’s also a story about Cherry, a boy who thinks he’s rubbish at talking to people, so he wears headphones hoping that people won’t speak to him.

There’s a month to wait as the anime is due out on the streaming platform on July 22nd.

That said, in Japan, there are new delays on the cinematic opening due to lockdown restrictions being extended to cope with a new spread of That Disease. It had been due in theatres in May, but it’s not there yet.

Words Bubble Up Like Soda Pop commemorates the 10th anniversary of Victor Entertainment’s music subsidiary Flying Dog. It looks delightful. I can relate hard with the boy.
