Unreal Engine 5: The new videos show sensational environments created with Nanite and Lumen

Unreal Engine 5

On Youtube Melhem Sfeir is regularly publishing a whole series of videos thanks to which it is possible to admire all the potential of the queen technologies of Unreal Engine 5, namely Nanite and Lumen. Thanks to these tools Sfeir has managed to recreate sensational settings that run smoothly with 60FPS raytracing on an RTX 3070.

The scenario of the video at the head of the news is a beautiful snowy peak, swept by the wind. In the video you can see the details of the snow, the reflections of the light, the textures of the stones. In some situations it is almost impossible to distinguish this video in computer graphics from a documentary shot with quality video cameras. To enhance the sensation of immersion, the author has also created a binaural audio, thanks to which it is possible to hear the wind all around the viewer.

A video from a few weeks ago recreated a forest that seems to have come out directly by Crysis. The yield is perhaps less impressive than in the mountain environment, but in the meantime the tools made available to the developers could be improved, as well as the confidence of Melhem Sfeir with the UE5 is certainly higher. One thing that is also noticeable in the frame rate, which stops at 40-50FPS in this second video.

Both examples, however, are exceptional and only make you imagine what will be possible to achieve in the hands of committed professional teams with PS5 and Xbox Series X | S.
