Guardians of the Galaxy: Wasn't an online mode planned?

Guardians of the Galaxy

At this year's E3, the publisher Square Enix presented the new superhero game Guardians of the Galaxy, which is due to be released on October 26, 2021 for both PC and consoles. The focus should be entirely on a single player experience, there should be neither a multiplayer part nor live service elements. But were the original plans possibly different in this regard?

At least one entry in Simon Larouche's LinkedIn profile suggests this. As a result, Larouche worked at Eidos Montreal as Online Gameplay Director on Guardians of the Galaxy on an unspecified multiplayer mode that is listed as "discontinued". Was the superhero game originally intended to offer multiplayer elements that were thrown out later in development? Square Enix has been silent on this so far. In the meantime, the entry in question has disappeared from Simon Larouche's profile, which could be a sign that it was a mistake or simply incorrect information. He also contradicts the statements made by Eidos Montreal in our extensive developer interview at PC Games:

"From day one, this project was a single player game. That's what we focused on and kept coming back to what we love to do at Eidos Montréal, namely creating these narrative-driven experiences. "

Accordingly, Guardians of the Galaxy is definitely a pure single player experience, which, by the way, is not supplemented in the form of DLCs or microtransactions. Everything that the developers have planned for the game you will receive directly with the purchase.

Guardians of the Galaxy vol 3 is now in pre-production, and Nebula star Karen Gillan has confirmed that she will be back.

The former Doctor Who actress uploaded some behind-the-scenes snaps on her Instagram Stories recently, where she could be seen plastered in green goo as the prosthetics team worked their magic.

She captioned the first one: 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 molds are being set as we speak!!!!!'

In a video, Gillan explained: 'So this is what happens when you need to wear prosthetics in a film. Normally they would do the whole face too, but my claustrophobia was so bad they kindly left my face and they're gonna do it separately.'

This is just the beginning – we can't wait to see her in full Nebula garb when the Guardians return in 2023.

Previously, writer/director James Gunn teased a 'huge' third movie, which has yet to officially confirm its cast but we assume will welcome back Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Pom Klementieff and Bradley Cooper (as Rocket) too.

Responding to a fan's tweet asking for an update, the filmmaker shared: 'Our designers & visual development geniuses are busy creating new, fantastic designs of other worlds & alien beings. I'm not sure the galaxy is big enough for all this magic.

'This. One. Is. Huge. I'm excited.'

Guardians of the Galaxy vol 1 and vol 2 are available now.
