The first Leica smartphone

Leitz Phone 1 has a gigantic one-inch sensor and is based on the recent Sharp Aquos R6

(Photo: Leica) After collaborating with Huawei for several years, the historic photographic brand Leica presents its first smartphone called Leitz Phone 1 which will debut in Japan with an attractive design, a gigantic one-inch sensor (already seen recently in Japan) and an equally exclusive price.

The name of the device itself is a tribute to the signature German founded in Wetzlar in 1869 by Ernst Leitz: Leica is in fact the abbreviation of Leitz (sche) Ca (mera). The aesthetic of the model is admirable, which incorporates the same feeling of the brand's cameras, with the contrast between the metallic edge and a matte black finish (black matte) with the iconic logo on a red background on the back, near the abundant photographic compartment in a round housing with the gem of protection offered by a magnetic lens cover very similar to that of Leica lenses.

The massive single sensor on board is the same one that debuted a few weeks ago with Sharp Aquos R6 or a 20 1-inch megapixel with f / 1.9 aperture, while on the front there is space for a 12.6 megapixel selfie camera. The interface of the application for taking pictures incorporates the same experience of Leica cameras in design and sound, also enjoying proprietary algorithms and solutions.

The picture is completed by a fast rechargeable 5000 mAh battery and an ip68 certified body to survive dust and water. The operating system is Android 11 with a striking black and white Leica interface.

In short, a smart smartphone with a refined camera intended for true connoisseurs. You pay for so much quality: the price of Leitz Phone 1 is 187,920 yen equal to over 1400 euros at the exchange rate. It is not clear whether it will open up to international trade, for now it is an exclusive of the Japanese telephone operator Softbank.
