Lucifer 5 Part 2: the reasons behind a character's death

Lucifer 5 Part 2

During an exclusive interview with CBR, Lucifer 5 Part 2 co-showrunner Joe Henderson revealed the real reason one of the characters in the series had to die.

There is a character whose death was inevitable in the second part of Lucifer 5, broadcast exclusively on Netflix from May 28th (catch up on our recession in this article! )

This character is detective Dan Espinoza, who died in Chloe's arms, whose death thus closes the circle of their relationship and friendship.

To explain the reasons behind making Dan die, Lucifer 5 co-showrunner Joe Henderson who, during an exclusive interview with CBR, revealed that Dan had to die so that Lucifer could believe in his superior power and feel anger and pain.

He also explained, referring to Lucifer:

“For all his two steps forward, we wanted him to step back and be confused and feel lost and have a feeling that the rules were wrong. That things don't work out. If someone like Dan Espinosa goes to hell, then the world is broken, and give it some more sense of, 'Okay, well, if I'm God, how do I fix this?' This was really important to us. Because being God isn't easy and figuring out how to make these things work isn't easy. And life is also not easy ”.

Ultimately, Dan's death in the second half of last season inspired Lucifer to see his future as God. Although Lucifer never admitted it to himself while Dan was alive, he considered Dan to be one of his closest mortal friends.

Kevin Alejandro, the actor who plays Lucifer, said in an interview with ET that he was initially as shocked as the fans when he learned that Dan was going to be killed, but ultimately said it was a good narrative choice by the writers and that he is confident that fans will understand that this decision was necessary.
