Sag Awards 2023
At the 2023 Sag Awards ( Screen Actors Guild Awards) (the awards of the US union that represents actors), Everything Everywhere All at Once broke the record for wins for a single film - obtaining the most important award of the evening for the ensemble in one film, lead actress went to Michelle Yeoh and both awards for supporting actors, went to Jamie Lee Curtis and Ke Huy Quan. While crazy action set in the multiverse swept the top four film categories, The White Lotus and Abbott Elementary swept the top television honors."I think my heart is going to explode," he said Yeoh at the beginning of her emotional speech, amazed at having found herself in front of the "greats" referring to the competition from Oscar winners Cate Blanchett and Viola Davis. “This is not just for me, but for all girls like me,” she said. A moved Quan explained that he was the first Asian to win an individual award in any film category in the history of SAGs. He stressed that this moment no longer belongs to him, but to all those who " have called for a change ".
The win for Best Actor in a Motion Picture was also acclaimed, which went to Brendan Fraser for The Whale , which beat out candidates like Colin Farrell and Austin Butler. The cast of The White Lotus won for Ensemble in a Drama Series, while Jennifer Coolidge won for Outstanding Performance by a Female in a Drama Series. Jason Bateman won Best Actor in a Drama Series for the final season of Ozark, while The Bear's Jeremy Allen White won in the same category but in a Comedy Series (having already won the Golden Globe as well). The cast of Abbott Elementary took home the award for ensemble in a comedy series
Jessica Chastain won for Actress in a Television Movie or Limited Series for George & Tammy, after winning last year for her big-screen role in The Eyes of Tammy Faye. "I share this award with Michael Shannon, who I think is one of our greatest living actors," she said in her speech. Sam Elliott was the surprise winner of the award for Best Actor in a Television Movie or Limited Series for the Yellowstone prequel 1883, beating out Steve Carell, Evan Peters, Paul Walter Hauser and Taron Egerton. Finally, the Lifetime Achievement Award was assigned to Sally Field: "In almost sixty years there isn't a day when I don't feel enthusiastic about being able to define myself as an actress", she said.
