Passkey support arrives on 1Password

AgileBits, developer of the 1Password software, one of the best password managers for custody of access credentials, has announced that starting this summer, support for passkeys will be added, with which it will be possible to log in without a password to their accounts, thus following Apple and Google who have already done the same since last year. Passkeys make it possible to significantly increase access security, since unlike traditional passwords, they are made up of a pair of keys, one of which is public, registered on the service provider's servers, and the other private and present only on PCs or users' devices.

This also contributes to making them decidedly less susceptible in the event of violations, being able to integrate with other security methods such as biometric authentication systems and face recognition. Furthermore, on 1Password, the passkeys will be based on the same security that characterizes the Secret Keys, usually generated by the platforms in case it is necessary to restore access to the accounts. As the post published on the development house's blog states, using the passkey is all that users will need to gain access to all their accounts.

Unlike user-created passwords, passkeys are complex and unique by design. They are generated and stored on your devices and are never shared with our cloud service.”

The developers write on their blog. Due to the use of keys with 256-bit entropy (the measure by which their strength is evaluated), passkeys are also particularly resistant to other fraudulent violations such as phishing, thus offering significantly better and safer protection.
