Magic the Gathering Arena, the Kamigawa

Wizards of the Coast has released Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty, the new set of the Magic: The Gathering card game. The expansion includes 302 cards and is available right now on MGT Arena, while the paper format will debut on Friday 18 February. To support the release of this brand new set, there is also an exclusive clip featuring Japanese digital pop star Hatsune Miku and a cinematic trailer, which you can view in the players below.

Set 1,200 years after the story of the original Kamigawa, the Neon Dynasty expansion features classic mechanics, reworked and some brand new ones. Among these is Reconfigure, which gives creatures the ability to be used by other creatures as if they were equipment and thus obtain new bonuses.

In addition, "Double-faced" cards are also returning, a real key to turn the tide of battles, as well as "Saga" -type cards, which transform into enchanted creatures and offer the player unique and additional abilities. There is no shortage of "Channel" cards, which allow players to discard a card with the possibility of obtaining a temporary effect. Finally, the "Ninjutsu" mechanic returns, allowing Ninja creatures to overcome the defenses of opponents. Cards with Ninjutsu can be put into play in attack position, taking your own unblocked creature back into your hand

Taking inspiration from traditional Japanese iconography, Neon Dynasty features 10 basic lands "Ukiyo-e", each basic land type has two woodcut versions available in foil and non-foil versions.

Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty, the new expansion of Magic: The Gathering will be available in regular Draft packs, thematic packs, collectors boosters, booster packs, as well as the Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty bundle and two Commander decks.

Sometimes, a Magic: The Gathering set comes along that breaks multiple boundaries you thought would never be considered, or at least not for a while longer. Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty is one of those sets. Not only did Wizards of the Coast bring us back to this often maligned, yet fan-favorite plane based on Japanese mythology, but we're seeing it 1200 years in the future from when we last stepped foot on Kamigawa. For the first time ever, Magic has gone high-tech with this new take on Kamigawa introducing plenty of neon lights, mechs, and transforming equipment to join the familiar sights of samurai, ninjas, and spirits.

Magic: The Gathering Arena is a digital client for the popular trading card game from Wizards of the Coast. The original Kamigawa block of sets was released in 2004 and 2005 and introduced a plane full of mysticism, unfaltering warriors, sneaky ninjas, and an abundance of legendary creatures. While the designs of the characters and world were flavorful and interesting, Kamigawa's mechanics like confusing flip cards, 'Sweep,' and 'Splice onto Arcane,' were duds, causing WoTC to abandon the plane for almost 20 years.

Upon our return Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty introduces awesome cyberpunk elements and brings forward the mechanics that players loved from the original set like 'Channel' and 'Ninjutsu.' If you don't know what any of that means, that's a good reason to check out today's stream where we'll be drafting the new set and maybe even crafting some decks for the Standard format.
