Kia presents K8: 3.5 petrol V6 and flagship comfort

Kia presents K8

The Korean house Kia has decided to anticipate the appearance of the new K8 SUV in February 2021 without revealing the technical details; at the end of March, however, the latter were published and in addition to the news that it will not be marketed in Europe and the United States, it was learned that the top of the range engine will be a 3.5-liter V6 with 295 hp flanked by minor variants such as a 2.5-liter four-cylinder that will produce 100 hp less than its bigger brother, reaching a total of 195 hp.

In addition, the Korean company has developed an engine with LPI technology - liquid propane injection - from 3.5 liters that will produce up to 236 hp; all these engines have in common the gearbox which will be an 8-speed automatic. According to Kia it will improve the consumption of the V6 engines by as much as 6%, positioning itself as an ecological alternative to the manual gearbox.

The company claims that thanks to an improvement in technology introduced with this automatic gearbox, it will be possible to make almost imperceptible acceleration using the new torque converters; Another new feature of this vehicle compared to its predecessors is the availability of all-wheel drive combined exclusively with the top-of-the-range 3.5L V6 petrol engine which can be chosen as an option as an alternative to the more traditional front-wheel drive; the electronic trim will also be available to be able to adjust the suspension to your liking.

The focus is clearly on comfort, this can be seen both from the extremely well-finished interiors and from details that could be overshadowed such as the addition of additional sound-absorbing material in the cabin and an additional layer of insulating material in the doors compared to the previous model; the infotainment is also of the highest quality, combining two 12.3-inch screens - one for infotainment and one on-board instrumentation - with a 12-inch Head Up Display.

The use of voice commands will be the norm on the new K8 which will listen and faithfully reproduce everything that is asked of it through an advanced 14-speaker sound system by Meridian.

Regarding safety, Kia will equip each vehicle with advanced ADAS such as highway driving assistance - Tesla style - adaptive cruise control and parking assistance.
