Games with Gold: List of free games for Xbox in May 2021 - this is what awaits you

Games with Gold

Microsoft calls the list of "free" Games with Gold in May 2021. Gold members of Xbox Live can look forward to a new month of games that they can download as part of their subscription at no additional cost. From May 1st to May 31st, the Armello adventure for Xbox One will be available as a "free" download. The real-time dungeon simulation Dungeons 3 will follow on May 16. In our test for Dungeons 3 you can read what to expect.

The pluses of the simulation include 20 missions, varied objectives and one that can be played in co-op mode Campaign. There is criticism, for example, for a superficial real-time strategy part and a simple-minded humor with exhausting speech output. You will get Dungeons 3 "for free" until June 15th with Games with Gold. For Xbox 360, the action adventure Lego Batman (May 1st to 15th) and the building game Tropico 4 (May 16th to 31st) are available through the Gold Program.

Due to the backward compatibility of the Xbox Series X you can play the inclusive games from Games with Gold comfortably on the new Microsoft console - sometimes with better fps and faster loading times. You can link the games to your Xbox Live account within the promotional periods at no additional cost. During an active membership there is permanent access to the titles. The annual subscription Xbox Live Gold costs around 60 euros.

The first free games promised for Games with Gold will be going live on May 1, which will make a great way to start the weekend.

Armello will be available to download on Saturday, offering a mix of tabletop strategy and RPG elements on Xbox One and Xbox Series X.

'As the hero, you'll wage epic battles, explore the vast kingdom, cast spells, and vanquish monsters, all with the ultimate goal of becoming the next King or Queen of Armello,' the official description reads.

Lego Batman will also be available to download on May 1, followed by Dungeons 3 and Tropico 4 on May 16.

But while these games will make for a nice combo for anyone looking for something unique to play in May, it's going to have a hard time matching up with Xbox Game Pass.

Microsoft has announced that its other subscription service is getting at least two new games in May.

And when we say new, we mean that they will both be making their debut on the Xbox platform as part of Xbox Game Pass.

The first is Dragon Quest Builders 2, with Microsoft confirming this week: 'Dragon Quest Builders 2 is the acclaimed block-building RPG from Dragon Quest series creators Yuji Horii, character designer Akira Toriyama, and composer Koichi Sugiyama. It features a compelling story, charming characters, and the potential for incredible creativity.

'At the start, you'll take on the role of a young apprentice builder who washes up on the Isle of Awakening. There you encounter the spirited Malroth, a mysterious youth with no memory of his past, who joins you as friend and bodyguard.

'Together, you'll explore vast islands full of resources to gather and monsters to battle. You'll help townsfolk, develop your skills to become a Master Builder, and take on the Children of Hargon - a dangerous cult that celebrates destruction.

'You'll take on the role of a builder, one of those rare individuals who have the power to create and construct. You'll explore multiple islands, build a community, take on requests from townsfolk, construct buildings and farms, and battle Dragon Quest series monsters.'

Dragon Quest Builders 2 will be available to download and play on May 4, and will be followed Knockout City on May 21.

The new 'dodgebrawling' title promises plenty of multiplayer fun and will be available on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate as part of the subscription service's ongoing deal with EA Play.

'here's just one month to go before Knockout City slams onto the gaming scene. And judging by the one million downloads during the recent cross play beta, this dodgebrawling game is sure to make an impact. The best part? It will be available to play at launch on May 21 for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and EA Play members!

'In this town, dodgebrawling is life. From the darkest alleys to the highest skyscrapers, brawlers clash with rival crews to attain dodgeball dominance. It's all about skill, style, teamwork, and, well, balls. Obviously.'

As mentioned above, Dragon Quest Builders 2 will be available to play with a base Xbox Game Pass subscription, with Knockout City going live via Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.
