PS5: Sony names new sales figures for PlayStation 5, surpasses PS4

PS5

Sony calls new sales figures for the PlayStation 5. As the company announced in a current financial report, the console has now been shipped almost 8 million times worldwide. And also sold: The PS5 is completely out of stock. If you want to buy a PS5 right now, you still need a lot of patience and a good deal of luck. Dealers receive additional inventory every now and then. The (mostly small) contingents are often sold out after just a few minutes. Sony anticipates that the delivery difficulties of the individual hardware components required for PS5 production could drag on through the current financial year (ends March 31, 2022).

Delivered in the last quarter from January to the end of March 2021 Sony reportedly has 3.3 million PS5 consoles worldwide. Since the release in November 2020, Sony has so far sold 7.8 million consoles. For comparison: The PS4 sold 7.6 million copies in the same launch period. There are also current figures for the PS5 predecessor: The PlayStation 4 has sold 115.9 million times worldwide so far. However, Sony also announces that sales of the PS4 are declining.

The number of subscribers to PS Plus, however, continues to increase. Sony currently has around 47.6 million members who use the paid service. Most recently, the publisher distributed Oddworld Soulstorm and Destruction AllStars for PS5 (buy now) via the PS Plus program. According to analyst Daniel Ahmad, Sony had the most successful year to date in its "Game & Network Services" department. For the current financial year, Sony has set itself the goal of bringing the number of PS5 sold to at least 14.8 million consoles - and thus exceeding PS4 sales in the second year.
