Samsung Odyssey OLED G8 is the new 34 ″ curved monitor for gamers

On the occasion of the IFA 2022, Samsung presented its new Odyssey OLED G8 gaming monitor, equipped with a splendid 34 "curved OLED panel (which combines Quantum Dot and OLED technology to maximize color quality). at 3,440 × 1,440 pixels resolution with a 21: 9 aspect ratio and a curvature radius of 1800R.

Although the Korean company has not yet published the full technical specifications, the product will sport a maximum refresh rate of 175Hz, a response time of just 0.1ms and a thickness of only 3.9mm in the thinnest part. The color fidelity is guaranteed by the coverage of 99.3% of the DCI-P3 range, while the VESA DisplayHDR 400 True Black certification ensures realistic and contrasted images (after all, Samsung declares a contrast ratio equal to 1,000,000: 1, value rather typical for an OLED panel).

As for the distinctly "gaming" features, the Samsung Odyssey OLED G8 monitor supports AMD FreeSync Premium technology (while compatibility with NVIDIA G has not yet been confirmed -Sync), so as to guarantee smooth gameplay free of annoying defects such as tearing and stuttering.

In particular, the synchronization of the lighting with what is shown on the screen could really increase immersion (a bit like the Ambilight technology on many Philips branded TVs).

In addition, thanks to Samsung Gaming Hub, it will be possible to use various streaming services directly without having to keep the PC on, while the presence of micro HDMI 2.1, mini DP 1.3 and USB-C ports ensures excellent versatility. Samsung Odyssey OLED G8 will be available globally during the fourth quarter of this year, but its price currently remains unknown.
