Sk Hynix shows the new 48 and 96 GB DDR5-6400 modules

With the debut of AMD and Intel processors, there is an increasing need for high-performance DDR5 memory modules. SK Hynix, one of the largest manufacturers in the world, recently unveiled a series of modules for next generation servers, including 32GB, 64GB, 128GB and 256GB DDR5-5600 RDIMMs equipped with 16Gb ICs, as well as DDR5-6700 RDIMMs and 48GB and 96GB DDR5-5600 with 24Gb ICs.

Undoubtedly, 24GB, 48GB and 96GB cuts are quite strange, as we are normally used to reasoning by the powers of two, but they have some important benefits. First, Cloud Service Providers can more accurately match the amount of DRAM to a specific capacity per core; furthermore, 24Gb DDR5 ICs can be produced with sufficient efficiencies using state-of-the-art process technologies, and finally, the modules support 6400MT / s transfer rate without compromising throughput.
