Intel introduces its new 80Gb / s Thunderbolt

A couple of weeks ago, we told you about the arrival of the USB4 Version 2.0 standard which will double the available bandwidth, going from the current 40Gb / s to the future 80Gb / s, as well as introducing several other innovations, like an increase in bandwidth beyond 20Gb / s for USB 3.2 data tunneling when using alt modes such as DisplayPort.

Thunderbolt version 4.0 still remains limited to 40Gb / s, but Intel is already working on the new one capable of reaching 80Gb / s, although at the moment it still lacks an official name. In fact, the company unveiled the technology in action for the first time live at the Intel Development Center (IDC) in Haifa, Israel, on the second day of its Technology Tour 2022. The IDC takes care of everything related to USB and Thunderbolt for Intel, from the definition of the products to the design, validation of hardware and software and the actual production.

Intel is preparing to unveil its line-up of "Raptor Lake" processors at the "Innovation" event, which will take place on September 27th.
