The mermaid saga: Star Comics announces the new edition

The mermaid saga

The mermaid saga, also known as Mermaid Saga, an immortal work born from the immense talent of Rumiko Takahashi (Inuyasha, Ranma1 / 2, Lum, Mao), based on the myth of Yao Bikuni, is back in a new edition.

The Star Comics publishing house, which had already brought the work of Rumiko Takahashi to our country in 1998, made the announcement on its social channels.

The saga of the sirens: the new edition

The Mermaid Saga was originally serialized in Japan on Shonen Sunday starting in 1984. A total of 3 volumes have been published, titled The Mermaid Woods, The Mermaid Sign and The Mermaid Mask written between 1984 and 1994. Star Comics published them in our country in May, June and July 1998.

Now, starting from February 2022, the same publishing house will publish, in the Umami series, a new edition of The saga of sirens, in 2 volumes full of suspense and mystery that will fascinate fans of the famous mangaka, but also those who love horror and supernatural genres.

This is the plot of The Sirens Saga:

Humans have always chased the mirage of eternal youth and of immortality. But humans can get both by eating mermaid meat. However, the price is very high, as this meat is also a powerful poison.

Most people die after a few mouthfuls. Others, certainly less fortunate, become immortal, but take on monstrous forms and lose all control. Rare are those who obtain the Gift without any problem. But their happiness lasts only a brief moment, before becoming aware. Man was born to die, and subverting this law brings only sadness and loneliness.

Who would want to live forever, victim of this curse?

For now we don't have a release date but the publishing house has said that more details will be revealed in the coming months. In the meantime, catch up on what you are missing from Rumiko Takahashi's works on this Amazon page!

Craig Pittman's new book compiles 30 years of chronicling Florida's weirdness

Craig Pittman launches his latest book tomorrow at Tombolo Books in St. Pete in conversation with the journalist and author Tamara Lush.

  • 'The State You’re In: Florida Men, Florida Women, and other Wildlife' is a 'love story involving the most tattooed woman in the world, a deep dive into the state’s professional mermaid industry, and an investigation of a battle between residents of a nudist resort and the U.S. Postal Service.'

  • Tickets are $5.

  • Why it matters: Pittman has covered the wild side of Florida for more than 30 years, and the book is a collection of columns that have appeared in the Tampa Bay Times and other outlets.

We asked Pittman to identify the exemplary Sunshine State story that tells us everything you need to know about modern Florida.

  • 'There is no single Florida story that captures all the elements you'd look for — nudity, wild animals, odd weaponry, etc. — but a few come close,' Pittman told Axios.

  • 'The guy who tossed the alligator through the Wendy's drive-thru window. The man who dressed as a pirate and fired his musket at tourists on the Seven Mile Bridge (he was shooting blanks). The long and tangled saga of Kathy Willets, whose defense attorney said she and her cop husband turned their home into a brothel as marriage therapy.'

  • The bottom line: 'Part of what makes chronicling Florida such a joy is that the stories are so unpredictable. Florida weirdness is like an iguana. It could pop up in your toilet or fall on your head during a cold snap. You never know where it's coming from. You just know it's there, waiting.'
