Black Panther: Wakanda Forever protagonist Shuri has wings in brand new official concept art. As you probably already know, in reality the protagonist of this film should have been Chadwick Boseman too, but unfortunately the talented and beloved actor died of colon cancer in 2020. This tragedy inevitably also affected the production of Wakanda Forever , so it was necessary to find another protagonist.

Out of respect for the late actor, Marvel Studios decided not to change the actor who played T'Challa, but preferred to make another character the protagonist. The choice thus fell on Shuri, played by Letitia Wright, who is now the new Black Panther. Her interpretation, as well as the general atmosphere of the film, were strongly influenced by the pain of Boseman's untimely passing.

This isn't an original gimmick, as Shuri actually wore wings in the comics, in her version of her Black Panther costume that included them. Saunders noted that the piece was made before Boseman's death, at a time when artists knew very little about the original story of Wakanda Forever. Shuri made her MCU debut in the first Black Panther film, quickly becoming a fan favorite following Black Panther's wide reach as a cultural phenomenon in her own right. She has since appeared in the last two Avengers films, Infinity War and Endgame. Now, Shuri has become the new Black Panther and will have to face Namor and protect his people in Wakanda Forever.
