RTX 4080 struggling with Time Spy and Blender

After the cancellation of the RTX 4080 12GB, which NVIDIA, as stated by most users and critics, admitted that it would have potentially misled buyers due to the lower potential compared to the model with a greater amount of memory on board, the RTX 4080 16GB (now only RTX 4080) is preparing to be on sale in stores starting next November 16. Recall that the RTX 4080 will be equipped with 9,728 CUDA cores and 16GB of GDDR6X VRAM and, in terms of performance, it will be twice as fast as the RTX 3080 Ti in games and more powerful than the RTX 3090 Ti.

As always happens, someone managed to get their hands on a specimen in advance and, recently, the Twitter user known as @Zed_Wang posted some screenshots depicting the benchmark results obtained by an RTX 4080 in 3DMark Time Spy, from which we can see that the card is 25% and 37% slower, respectively, in Time Spy and Time Spy Extreme compared to the current flagship RTX 4090. Another well-known leaker, @Tum Apisak, has instead posted the score obtained in Blender, a popular free and open source 3D modeling application, where the RTX 4080 was about 28% slower than the RTX 4090. For a more direct comparison with other graphics cards on the market, you can refer to the table below.

It is possible that the RTX will suffer the same fate, although the presentation of the new Radeon RX 7000 from AMD may lead users to wait for the debut of the latter as well.
