PCIe 5.0 SSDs will exceed 12GB / s

The Korean electronics giant Samsung has announced that it has started mass production of its eighth generation V-NAND memories, featuring integrated circuits with a transfer rate of 2,400MT / s (presumably with 236 layers) and which, when paired with a suitable PCIe 5.0 controller, are capable of creating SSDs that can exceed even 12GB / s.

SungHoi Hur, Executive Vice President of Flash Product & Technology at Samsung Electronics, stated:

As the market demand for denser and higher capacity storage drives to increase the number of V-NAND layers, Samsung has adopted its advanced 3D scaling technology to reduce the surface and l height, while avoiding the cross-cell interference that normally occurs with scaling down. Our 8th generation V-NAND will help meet the rapidly growing market demand and enable us to offer more differentiated products and solutions that will drive future storage innovations.

Unfortunately, Samsung has not announced any products that will make use of its 8th generation V-NAND memory at this time. but probably not long to publish more information about it.
