Metal Gear Solid 2: mod adds the third person camera of Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence

Metal Gear Solid 2

In honor of the twentieth anniversary of Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance, modder oct0xor has released an exceptional mod for the PC version of the game, called Metal Gear Solid 2 - The Substance Of Subsistence (S.O.S.), which adds the third-person camera of Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence, as you can see in the video below.

The modder is keen to point out that in the game there were no traces of code to insert the new camera and that to do it he had to do practically everything himself, through reverse engineering. He also specified that Konami is not involved in any way (we did not doubt it) and that the project is not of a commercial nature. So it's free for everyone.

As already mentioned, to use the mod you must have the PC version of the game, which previously could be easily purchased from GOG, but which is now in fact unavailable due to licensing problems with the cutscenes. Konami is working on getting the game back on sale, but hasn't announced anything yet. To download the mod, click here instead.

As you know, the original Metal Gear Solid 2 was viewed from a bird's eye view, like the 2D chapters of the saga and the first 3D chapter. The camera behind the protagonist will come only with the third chapter. More precisely with its expanded version, Subsistence.

To install the mod, download the release.zip file from the link provided, then unzip it in the \ bin folder of that Metal Gear Solid 2. Start the game using the solid_mods_loader.exe executable and that's it. Please note that you can activate or deactivate the new camera at any time during gameplay.
