LG enters the market for charging stations for electric cars

LG, the Korean multinational that has been producing electronics and petrochemicals for over 50 years, is preparing to enter the electric vehicle charging business with the acquisition of a South Korean developer of electric vehicle chargers known as AppleMango. The acquisition will allow LG to create "complete" charging stations with an intuitive interface and a real-time management control system. In particular, LG also aims to exploit its knowledge acquired with the development of outdoor technologies, creating charging solutions resistant to dust and water.

The automotive sector is not new for LG, the brand is already a consolidated reality with batteries, screens and sensors for electric cars. LG recently joined forces with Magna International to develop electric motors and on-board chargers for automakers. The acquisition will therefore allow the brand to create greater synergy with its activities in the automotive sector and become more competitive, offering 360-degree solutions.

LG plans to install a series of electric vehicle chargers at LG Digital Park in South Korea by the end of 2022; the goal is to provide a variety of charging solutions dedicated to private homes, shopping centers, hotels and public buildings. Given LG's commitment, it would not surprise us to see the arrival of wireless solutions in the coming years as well.
