Will Intel Arc Change the Notebook Market? A770M beats RTX 3060

As we get closer to the launch of Arc Alchemist GPUs in the rest of the world markets, new official figures reveal the performance references of further models in the range. After having been able to "test" the first benchmarks of Arc A730M and A380 desktop, now it is the turn of the A770M, a card that, according to the numbers published by Intel itself, is able to beat Nvidia's RTX 3060 Mobile.

The A770M, along with the A730M, represents the high-end of Arc GPUs for laptops. Both are based on the ACM-G10 graphics processor, manufactured via TSMC's 6nm manufacturing node. With 32 Xe cores and as many units dedicated to ray tracing, along with an operating frequency of 1650MHz and a 16GB GDDR6 video memory with 256-bit bus, the A770M can offer twice the performance of its smaller sister A730M, which is equipped instead of 24 Xe core and ray tracing units, 12GB of GDDR6 VRAM on a 192-bit bus and a 1100MHz frequency.

However, what emerged shows an average performance of 12% better than the A770M compared to the RTX 3060 Mobile. In most triple-A titles, Intel's GPU was consistently ahead of its Nvidia counterpart, with the exception of three games, where it ranked just behind. The fact that Intel's GPU is able to provide performance on a par with the RTX 3060 is certainly a positive fact, even if we will have to wait for more fair benchmarks for a more complete comparison. The Arc A770M also has support for AV1 encoding, a feature currently not available on other video cards, which can be used in conjunction with a 12th generation Alder Lake CPU to further accelerate performance with multimedia content.
