The Lord of the Rings

The approach continues towards next September 2, the date on which The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will make its debut on Amazon Prime Video. The ambitious series based on Tolkien's works will, as we know, act as a prequel to the events already narrated in Peter Jackson's films: thousands of years before Frodo's adventures, in fact, we will witness the adventures related to the creation of the rings of power, in fact, with all the consequences of the case and above all with the appearance of the first threat represented by Sauron. In the unpublished episodes, therefore, we will see not only the young versions of well-known characters such as Galadriel and Elrond, but also many figures never seen before. And, apparently, we will also see original versions of the Orcs.

In Tolkien's narrative universe, the Orcs are a race of monstrous beings created in Middle-earth due to the physical and spiritual corruption of some elves operated by Melkor, a divine creature who, pursuing his thirst for revenge, tried to conquer the world and was then known as Morgoth, the Dark Lord. We know that it was Sauron who gathered the various tribes of these feral beings to replenish the ranks of his army. Although their appearance is not described in detail in the novels, they have now gone down in history as the deformed creatures seen in Jackson's films. But the first images released in these days show them to us in an even different way, a kind of pre-evolution.

The real novelty, however, is that compared to Jackson's works in which ogres were often reproduced thanks to special effects, in the series they will instead be made by making up real actors, and only later by adding additional details in CGI. Executive producer Lindsey Weber and Prosthetics Head Jamie Wilson also revealed that for the first time in the history of Tolkenian adaptations, we will also see female Orcs. The curiosity, especially that of the fans of the first hour, continues to increase and therefore all that remains is to wait for the end of the summer, when The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will offer us the first of the five planned seasons.

Prime Video Unveils First Look at Orcs From 'The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power'

IGN has shared an exclusive first look at the Orcs from Prime Video's upcoming The Lord of the Rings series, The Rings of Power.

The Orcs, which are essential in The Lord of the Rings universe, capture the essence of what audiences are used to in the films but are also presented a little differently due to the show's timing; The Rings of Power take place in the Second Age, shortly after their species was almost extinct due to the War of Wrath in the First Age. Jamie Wilson, who leads the show's prosthetic department, told IGN that showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay felt the importance to treat the Orcs 'as their own culture and explore their world on its own two legs in its own right.”

“We spent a lot of time talking about what it would mean to be an Orc in the Second Age,” added executive producer Lindsey Weber. “It felt appropriate that their look would be different, part of a wilder, more raw, Second Age, Middle-earth, closer to where the First Age ends. As we meet them, they're not yet organized into armies, they're a little more scattered and they've been scavenging. So it's just a different time in their total story.”
