Mercedes EQG will have class-leading batteries

According to the Mercedes roadmap, 2024 will be the debut year of the new G-Class in a 100% electric version: it will be called EQG and, needless to say, it will be one of the most exclusive and desired SUVs in the world. To achieve this, Mercedes will not only be able to rely on luxury and interior quality, but will also have to offer a first-class technical sector: it will do so by relying on Sila, a company specializing in particularly innovative batteries.

Sila is in fact developing a battery that uses silicon anodes, a material thanks to which it is possible to increase the energy density inside the battery without jeopardizing performance or safety: according to Sila, thanks to silicon it is possible to increases the energy density between 20 and 40% compared to current batteries, a percentage that could give Mercedes a great advantage over the competition, in terms of the range of the car.

"Our partnership with Sila is another essential step towards building the most luxurious and desired electric cars the market has ever seen." Markus Schafer, Mercedes-Benz Chief Technology Officer, said.

To date, the demand for Mercedes-Benz electric cars is already higher than the company's production capacity due to the various supply problems that all car manufacturers are experiencing in this period, and the the arrival of the new EQG on the market will only increase demand; according to some, once orders for the EQG have been opened, some customers may have to wait up to 2 years to get their car, despite the price that will undoubtedly be prohibitive for most of the population.
