Mercedes admits that AMG One may have been a mistake

With the increase in hybrid and electric proposals on the market, manufacturers of supercars and hypercars are also slowly specializing in solutions of this type, which are increasingly powerful, fast and in some ways "crazy". Some attempt to achieve this through brute force, while others use technology.

Mercedes-AMG has decided to use both, but apparently, building a hypercar with the heart of a Formula 1 is not a so simple operation. Mercedes-AMG One is the German manufacturer's boldest undertaking ever and, as the car prepares for its unveiling date, the manufacturer has revealed its doubts about the project. According to Autocar, Mercedes-Benz CEO Ola Kallenius he recently declared, almost jokingly, that "approving the project was a drunken choice". The design team's idea was to "insert the engine of a Formula into a road car"; decidedly complicated strategy to implement.

Since its inception in 2017, engineers have struggled to match the performance of the 1.6-liter V6 hybrid with stringent WLTP emissions standards. The limiter would be set at around 11,000 rpm, only 1,000 rpm below that of the single-seaters; the engine block is manufactured and assembled at the Mercedes-AMG F1 team headquarters in Brixworth, UK. Mercedes-AMG One promises more than 1,000 horsepower, all-wheel drive, a speed of over 340 km / h and a 0-200 km / h time of six seconds.

According to Mercedes, only 275 of these will be built exclusive hypercars, which will start production in 2022. The price? Over 2.5 million euros. Once the sale is over, considering the obstacles recorded with this model, we find it difficult for Mercedes to proceed with another project in the short term; surely it will be several years before a new hypercar.| ); }
