PS5: in Japan the console sells, but games don't, Switch dominates the ranking

PS5

PS5 in Japan is selling more and more according to data from March 2021, probably aided by more regular production and distribution. The real problem seems to be the software, completely absent from the Top 30.

The data we refer to have been shared by Famitsu. The magazine reports that since the PS5 release it has sold 580,211 units in Japan. Weekly sales figures are

March 1 - March 7: 22,509 March 8 - March 14: 37,851 March 15 - March 21: 34,657 March 22 - March 28: 62,295

Let's see instead the PS5 sales of March 2021, compared to February 2021:

February 2021: 95,289 March 2021: 157,312

Numbers growing, as you can see, probably aided by more regular production / distribution. Of course, data that cannot be compared with Nintendo Switch, which in the last week sold 190,133 standard edition and 77,364 Lite edition. In any case, we can see that the situation of PS5 continues to improve.

What is "worrying" is the data of the software side of the PS5. In the Top 30 of the week 15-21 are 29 Nintendo Switch games and a single PS4 game. While in the Top 10 of the week 22-28 (Famitsu will update the data only tomorrow, April 2nd, transforming the Top 10 into a Top 30) there are 9 Switch games and 1 PS4 game.

As you can see, the PS5 software does not appear in the charts. Will titles like Returnal, Deathloop and above all Resident Evil Village be able to turn the tables?

It is a good sign for Sony that Final Fantasy 16 and Resident Evil Village are among the most anticipated games in Famitsu.

Following sporadic restocks earlier this week, the PlayStation 5 is again unavailable at most major retailers.

Costco and Newegg both released PS5 bundles on Tuesday and Wednesday respectively, but they were quickly snapped up by gamers who have desperately looked to get their hands on Sony's next-gen console since it launched in November.

The next restock could be due to land as soon as April 2 at Best Buy, as the retailer has released more consoles each Friday for the last six weeks.

Here's a breakdown of the latest PS5 stock information from Target, Walmart, GameStop, Antonline, PS Direct, Amazon and more.

Amazon PS5 Restock

The PlayStation 5 is out of stock at Amazon and a message on the retailer's website indicates it does not know when or if Sony's next-gen consoles will be back in stock.

To be alerted when the queue opens again, gamers should follow dedicated Twitter gaming accounts such as @Wario64, who alerted gamers about the drop last week.
