AMD's new drivers for DX11 games aren't all that exciting

The new AMD Software Preview Drivers of May 2022 were supposed to bring an average 10% higher performance in several DirectX 11 titles (with peaks of 30%). However, according to the tests carried out by our colleagues at Techspot, this is not entirely true.

Indeed, compared to the current Adrenalin 22.5.1 drivers, the performance advantages are rather marginal. The test configuration consisted of an AMD Ryzen 9 5950X processor, coupled with 32GB of dual-rank RAM and a Radeon RX 6700 XT. The system was tested in 50 titles at different resolutions (1080p, 1440p and 4K). At 1080p, only a third of games showed a small improvement in fps, while two thirds showed an increase of 1% or more. The gains were even lower at the highest resolutions.

The video games that enjoyed a 5% or more improvement at various resolutions were Watch Dogs: Legion, Death Stranding, The Witcher 3, Apex Legends and Forza Horizon 5. Godfall, on the other hand, saw a 6-7% decrease to 1440p and 4K, despite being a title promoted by AMD itself.

Recently, AMD, in view of the possible return of the price of video cards at the recommended levels, it has published an interesting slide in which it compares the products of the Radeon RX 6000 line with those of NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 30 to highlight the best price / performance ratio of its proposals compared to its direct competitor.
