Honda challenges Tesla and aims for autonomous driving

For several years now we have been hearing about autonomous driving - mainly from Elon Musk, and more generally from companies that have specialized in the design of electric cars: although there is a lot of talk about autonomous driving, in reality we are still very far from reaching the moment when we can all decide to stop driving, allowing the car to take us to our destination without worrying about traffic. In recent years, much progress has been made, and now there is a new player interested in developing this technology, Honda, which aims to create an autonomous taxi service for the city of Tokyo.

Established in 2020 as a subsidiary, Honda Mobility Solutions deals with developing modern mobility solutions; this business unit is committed to studying Tokyo's traffic flows, evaluating the reasons for congestion, developing new safety systems and at the same time monitoring emissions into the atmosphere. HMS aims to create an autonomous taxi service by the middle of the decade, and will do so with the support of the local road authorities, so as to be sure of developing an autonomous driving system that can better integrate with the code of the road in force.

Services of autonomous taxis will undoubtedly be a valuable tool for developing autonomous driving software, at the same time giving citizens the opportunity to get used to living together on the road with unmanned cars.
