Telltale's The Walking Dead was born as a spin-off of Left 4 Dead

Over the past week, The Walking Dead series produced by Telltale Games turned 10 years old. In a documentary, created to celebrate this anniversary, the original developers explained how the game was conceived and initially had no connection with the franchise created by Robert Kirkman, but it was actually a project intended for Valve and which aimed to be a narrative spin-off of Left 4 Dead.

As explained in the documentary, Telltale Games had started working on his The Walking Dead with a very specific idea: to use the context of the game Valve for a game based on the Left 4 Dead universe. "The original prototype was really different than what it became," explained Jake Rodkin, who worked at Telltale Games as the season designer and director lead. Although the reference design was different, the prototype had retained all the key elements of the development team's productions.| ); }
Telltale Games filed for bankruptcy in 2018, only to be bailed out by LCG Entertainment. The development team is currently working on several new projects, including an unreleased Star Trek game and The Wolf Among Us 2.
