Mario Kart 9: Allegedly new episode of the racing game in the works

Mario Kart 9

It is now almost four years ago that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, the latest episode of the well-known racing game series for the Nintendo Switch, was released. Considering that this is just an expanded version of Mario Kart 8 from 2014, it is slowly but surely about time for a new game to appear. If the well-known insider and Nintendo leaker "Zippo" has its way, it will not be long.

In a recent blog entry, the leaker stated that the series producer Kosuke Yabuki and his team are allegedly has been working on a new "main game" from the Mario Kart brand for three years and the development is accordingly well advanced. He emphasized that it is not a "niche title" such as the mobile game Mario Kart Tour or the AR game Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit, but an AAA production for home consoles. In addition, "Zippo" stated that the game's release is planned in all likelihood to coincide with this year's Christmas business - but no later than the beginning of 2022. He left it open for which platform the new Mario Kart should appear. But anything but a switch release would at least be surprising.

A statement or even confirmation from Nintendo is pending so far, so you should at least for the time being be careful with the whole affair. However, "Zippo" was correct several times in the past with its leaks and prognoses, so that there could be some truth to it. How do you feel about it? Do you want a new Mario Kart? What innovations should it offer? Let us know in the comments!

Things We Want To See In Mario Kart 9

'Mario Kart' has always featured a variety of tracks inspired by different parts of the Mario universe. 'Mario Kart 8 Deluxe' took concept that further by introducing tracks inspired by other games, like 'Animal Crossing.'

Nintendo has released plenty of new games since the last game in the racing franchise came out, so fans are excited at the prospect of newly inspired tracks. Over on Reddit, u/Danster21 made a post about how cool it would be to have a new track inspired by 'Super Mario Odyssey.'

'I can already imagine flying around New Donk City, swerving through traffic and strangely tall 'humans'. Perhaps getting another moon map for battle mode, but stylized like the one in SMO,' they wrote. Another fan remarked that they would love to see Pauline as a playable character, plus the Cascade, Luncheon, and Cap Kingdoms get their own tracks in the next 'Mario Kart.' Other tracks that fans have dreamed up include courses inspired by 'Splatoon' and 'Arms.'
