God of War Ragnarök: New character in the sequel?

God of War Ragnarök

Since the unveiling of God of War Ragnarök last year, the Sony Santa Monica Studios team has been keeping a low profile when it comes to the first information on the sequel to the 2018 reboot / sequel to the series.

As part of the "The God of War Podcast" spoke to Samuel Matthews (concept artist) with Albert Chessa (host of the podcast) and possibly suggested something new for the next game. It was about the question of what the makers think of introducing son Atreus as a playable character. Up until now, Atreus was only available as support in combat at the push of a button - the players were not yet able to take full control. According to Samuel Matthews' hints, this may change in the sequel.

According to the concept artist, Naughty Dog's The Last of Us apparently had a major influence on the development of God of War. And also from The Last of Us Part 2 you would like to get some inspiration. For example, Samuel Matthews finds the division of the story into two parallel narratives interesting. As long as those responsible at Santa Monica Studios do not officially comment on the subject, these statements should initially be viewed with caution. A release of God of War Ragnarök this year is now also considered unlikely. Recently there has also been speculation that the game will not only be released for PS5 but also for PS4 again - similar to Horizon Forbidden West.
