AMD, discovered the codename of the Navi 24 GPU

AMD

Phoronix colleagues reported that AMD has begun rolling out support for its smallest RDNA 2 family GPU in Linux. In particular, the chip, known as Navi 24, was given the code name “Beige Goby”. Its sighting indicates that the graphics processor is on track to hit the market over the next few months and earn its place within budget desktops and notebooks. However, at the moment it is rather difficult to understand what will be the official name of the graphics cards equipped with "Beige Goby".

Recall that AMD, for the internal codenames of the Navi 20 series GPUs, has decided to use the names of fish, as evidenced by the captions present in the Linux drivers. For example, the Radeon RX 6800/6900 (Navi 21) was called Sienna Cichlid, but there are also Navy Flounder (Navi 22), Dimgrey Cavefish (presumably Navi 23) and now we have Beige Goby (which should be Navi 24). br>
With four different GPUs, the AMD RDNA 2 series GPU family will cover a larger chunk of the market than any other Radeon range in recent years. Vega, for example, was only targeting the high-end market, while Polaris was targeting the budget and mainstream segment. The latest generation Navi 10 series was also aimed at the mainstream market, while Navi 20 covers the entire range, from entry-level PCs to high-end gaming desktops equipped with the best video cards.

Since Beige Goby (Navi 24) will be an entry level GPU, it will likely be used as the basis for AMD's Radeon RX 6400 series graphics cards. We can speculate that the new products will be launched by the back-to-school season (August / September), although we have no idea of the actual dates. Keeping in mind that AMD continues to use GCN5 (Vega) based architecture for its integrated GPUs, many OEMs may prefer to use dedicated Radeon RX 6400 series graphics cards to differentiate themselves from competitors.

Look for a good card mother to pair with the new Ryzen processors? ASUS ROG Strix X570-F with 14 power phases might be a good choice. You can find it on Amazon at a discounted price.

Budget AMD Navi 23 Radeon RX 6600, RX 6600 XT Could Challenge Nvidia RTX 3060

KEY POINTS
  • AMD is reportedly planning to release a new set of graphics chipsets
  • The said products could sell at a starting price of $299
  • AMD hasn't revealed anything about Radeon RX 6600 and RX 6600 XT
  • A recently uncovered listing bears that AMD is working on Navi 23 GPUs. These said graphics chipset reportedly in the pipeline indicate the chipmaker could soon launch RDNA 2 GPUs. The arrival of these graphics chips in the market could rival the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060.

An EEC listing submitted by ASRock reveals that the AMD Radeon RX 6600 and RX 6600 XT are in the works. Both models reportedly feature 8 GB of GDDR6 video memory, which matches the VRAM capacity of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 Ti. These specs align with what a recent post on the Chiphell forum claims.

According to the post, both the AMD Radeon RX 6600 and RX 6600 XT feature the Navi 23 GPU with 1, 792 and 2, 048 stream processors. This is 20% lesser than the 2,560 cores of the AMD RX 6700 XT. This hints at the possibility that the upcoming Navi 23 GPUs would likely be positioned for 1080p gaming instead of the QHD resolution.

According to the leak, the Radeon RX 6600 XT scores 9, 349 in 3DMark's Time Spy benchmark.

These figures are close to the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 Ti's average score, which is 10,996. The same leaker who revealed these details on the Chihell forum also shared GPU-z screenshots of the AMD RX 6600 XT and the RX 6600. The images underline that the XT version of the rumored GPU features up to 2.7 GHz clocks.

Despite these impressive specs, the Radeon RX 6600 and the Radeon RX 6600 XT still struggle to match the Nvidia RTX 3060 when paired with DLSS. But, if AMD would equip the upcoming GPUs with the performance-boosting Fidelity FX Super Resolution technology, then maybe, AMD's upcoming graphics processors could compete, as per PCGamesN.

AMD has not yet confirmed the existence of the Radeon RX 6600 and RX 6600 XT. However, Wccftech speculates that the upcoming GPUs might be 'positioned as a premium 1080p gaming solution.' There are no official prices for the rumored graphics chipsets just yet.

The site claims that consumers could expect the upcoming cards to sell at a starting price of $299.
