A Ryzen 7 7800X3D was overclocked to 5.4GHz

Asus overclocker SkatterBencher recently released a video showing how he managed to push the AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D processor to 5.4 GHz, despite overcoming the chip's overclocking limitations thanks to the clock generator external to increase the frequency of the cores on the ASUS ROG Crosshair X670E Hero motherboard. Indeed, we recall that the 3D stacking technology used by the Sunnyvale company for the realization of its 3D V-Cache technology disables manual overclocking on the CPU, with the exception of the Precision Boost Overdrive ( PBO ) and Curve Optimizer features.
The overclocking strategy is complex but effective: Precision Boost Overdrive serves to avoid power limitations on the chip, the external clock generator boosts the frequencies and the Curve Optimizer supercharges the chip beyond the factory voltages to keep the frequencies stable of clocks. The result is a peak of 5.4GHz on a single core and 4.85GHz on all eight cores at voltages below 1.2V, with a 7.7% increase in boost frequencies and 10% in single core frequencies compared to the standard specifications. Apparently, SkatterBencher certainly does not want to stop there, since he is working on other methods, some of which have been able to bring the processor up to 5.6GHz.

However, it is also important to evaluate the reliability and durability of chips subjected to such extreme overclocking, as this practice can reduce the useful life of the component and increase the risk of malfunctions or failures. Therefore, it is advisable to proceed with caution and inform yourself adequately before making such significant changes to your hardware.
