Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak, Capcom unveils new weapon upgrades, here's how they work

Monster Hunter Rise

With a post published on Twitter and on Steam, game director Yoshitake Suzuki teased players of Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak, revealing that the first free update scheduled for August among other things will introduce a new feature to upgrade for weapons, outlining how it works.

Suzuki has revealed that the announced "Qurious Crafting" mechanics for armor will also offer weapon benefits, but in a different way. Where pieces of equipment can gain new abilities and changes to defensive parameters, apparently with random rolls, as far as armaments are concerned, players will be able to freely choose from a series of fixed bonuses.

As we can see in the example below, each weapon will have up to a maximum of 5 slots (in the example below, the last two slots appear to be locked, it is not clear yet if there will be a way to "unlock" them or if their number is fixed depending on the branch) where to allocate as many anomaly upgrades. These include bonuses to attack damage, affinity (i.e. the chance to land critical hits), element, and acuity.

Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak, here is the new weapon upgrade system Particularly interesting is the latest upgrade on the list, which allows you to improve the slot for fury skills, which means that some weapons that are currently excellent but penalized due to this aspect they will also be able to equip level 2 and 3 fury jewels, such as those that increase damage against certain creatures or the one that increases damage if you take advantage of elemental weaknesses. In short, this is a novelty that has all the potential to upset the balance of the current goal of Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak.

The first free update of Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak will be available during the month of August, with the release date and details on the contents that will be revealed during next week's Digital Event, announced just today. In addition to the new weapon and armor upgrades, the update will introduce the Iridescent Nargacuga, the Volcanic Bazelgeuse and the Desolate Arena map.

Capcom has revealed that it will be holding a Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak broadcast next week.

The digital event will kick off at 7am PDT / 10am EST / 3pm BST / 4pm CEST on Tuesday 9th August and will contain news on the first free updating coming to the Monster Hunter expansion.

Capcom revealed that the broadcast will certainly contain updates on two upcoming monsters, Lucent Nargacuga and Seething Bazelgeuse, but we should also expect more from the showcase.

The broadcast will be shown via the official Monster Hunter Twitch channel and will be hosted by Ryozo Tsujimoto and Yoshitake Suzuki, the game's producer and director respectively.

We've already seen a little bit of Lucent Nargacuga in a gameplay video shared last week, and Seething Bazelgeuse is a new variant of a popular monster from 2018's Monster Hunter: World.

If you're not already on the Sunbreak train, perhaps our glowing 9/10 review might convince you to snap up the expansion.

What are you hoping to see from this broadcast? Let us know in the comments!
