Nikuko's Fortune (Hepburn: Gyokō no Nikuko-chan ) is the adaptation of the novel written by Kanako Nishi and published by Gentosha in April 2014, from which a manga serialized online was also taken via the Comic Boost website from January 29, 2021 and subsequently collected in a single volume tankōbon.Here is the synopsis:
The story tells us about 11 year old little Kikuko who lives with her mother Nikuko, a 38 year old woman, cheerful, passionate and always ready to eat something delicious. But Nikuko has a problem: she always falls in love with the wrong person about her. Her favorite motto of hers is: “Being ordinary is the best thing”. Nikuko's strong and daring spirit often embarrasses Kikuko, torn between wanting to grow up quickly and wanting to remain a child forever. She likes her life, but at the same time she dreams of being able to soon leave the place where she lives, where everyone knows everything about everyone. Having nothing in common other than living together on a boat at the port, Kikuko and Nikuko will face daily challenges, until an unexpected secret is revealed…
