Mass Effect: Legendary Edition: New update for download - that's in the patch

Mass Effect

A new update is available for download for Mass Effect: Legendary Edition. The developers of Bioware announce the patch notes on the EA website - and with them the details of the individual changes and innovations. The main focus of the update is on improving the performance of the technically revamped collection of games. In addition, the Xbox Series X should no longer crash during the startup process if a wireless headset is plugged in. Especially in Mass Effect 1, the terrain textures have been improved. For parts 1 and 3, the developers fix a problem that caused kills for achievements or trophies to not be counted properly.

The update also includes minor improvements for the cutscenes in Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2 (buy now 69, 99 € / 53.99 €). The optimizations should make occasional artifacts a thing of the past. Especially in part 2, the lighting and shadows were adjusted in some cutscenes.

Mass Effect Legendary Edition patch 1.02 adds mostly cosmetic improvements

With just under 12GB, Mass Effect Legendary Edition's patch 1.02 is quite hefty, making changes across all three games and the launcher, but a closer look reveals that, at least on PC, it offers further visual improvements and fixes to achievement tracking. Some of the problem players pointed out on Steam at launch seem to have been fixed with the 1.01 launch day update, and player reception has been positive overall, but some are still reporting crashes at launch.

While it's always difficult to tell how widespread problems such as the Origin launcher draining performance or crashes on startup are, the patch notes don't make mention of any known issues on PC at this time. It's not unlikely the team is still in the middle of some calibrations. On the issue of the missing FOV slider at least, modders have since come to the rescue.
