Animal Crossing: New Horizons: New update hints at enlargement of the island

Animal Crossing

Nintendo recently prepared Animal Crossing: New Horizons for the events in spring 2021 with a major update. The program code seems to hide a number of references to upcoming features that the Nintendo developers are currently working on. Dataminers have found further information during their analysis in the past few days. As the website reports, a change in the coastline is one of the most noticeable findings. A line in the program code seems to suggest that the southern coastline of your island will be set further south after an upcoming update.

This suggests that your island will expand significantly in the future - and thus more building land is available. Another theory is that character captains could arrive in Animal Crossing New Horizons (buy now 45.99 €) and live with his family on a new island south of your paradise.

    Leaked Island Expansion

Certain Animal Crossing New Horizons data miners have uncovered certain parts of coding that appear to point towards a possible expansion for players’ islands.

Since the latest 1.10 update for the game, data miners have discovered fence customisation, museum upgrades, and a specific line of code that reads, “mSouthShoreBasline.f32: 500.00000 was changed to mSouthShoreBasline.f32: 1000.00000”.

The code south shore baseline refers to the beach section of the island at the very south of the map. This line of coding stops the camera at a certain point, almost like an invisible wall that stops the player at a certain point.

But now it looks like with the coding doubled from 500 to 1000, this could mean some form of island expansion is on the way. There are quite a few possibilities for the expansion, it could be that the current island will be expanded, or that a smaller island will be added south of the shore line.

However, we advise players not to get their hopes up too much as the change could simply be some form of testing on Nintendo’s part.

No date has been set for the Animal Crossing New Horizons 2.0 update, but as soon as more information becomes available, DualShockers will let you know.
