Balan Wonderworld and epileptic triggers, a scene under accusation

Available on PC and console from today - Friday, March 26 - Balan Wonderworld is a new production signed by the creators of Sonic and proposed to the public by Square Enix.

With the arrival of Day One, however, the peculiar Adventure Platform has become the protagonist of a new reflection on the relationship between video games and photosensitive subjects. Epilepsy editor Liana Ruppert had previously brought several epileptic triggers in Cyberpunk 2077 to the attention of CD Projekt RED. A report that she had led to a quick intervention by the Polish software house, through a specially dedicated Cyberpunk 2077 patch.

Now, the videogame journalist turns the spotlight on this important issue again. In particular, Liana Ruppert impeaches the final boss fight of Balan Wonderworld. The latter, she reports, would in fact include a large number of potential epileptic triggers, not only for sensitive subjects, but also for users not affected by these problems. Watching the sequence, Ruppert says, immediately caused her to have an attack. Under her she accuses her in particular of the use not only of flashing lights in rapid sequence, but also of splinters of bright white on an intermittent background, an element cited as a particularly dangerous trigger.

Following sharing her concerns, Liana Ruppert was contacted by developers and QA experts, who confirmed her findings. At the moment, the editor is in contact with a spokesperson for Square Eni x, with the software house that is handling the problem.
