Audi's future is electric

Audi also decided to bet heavily on the electric mobility market, after announcing its intention to stop producing new thermal engines: on the occasion of the presentation of the financial data for 2020, Audi confirmed its intention to bring at least 20 fully electric models by 2025, investing an amount equal to 15 billion euros in the development of new electric mobility solutions.

Audi's 2020, despite the global upheavals caused by the pandemic, has been very positive: fiscal 2020 closed with a turnover of 50 billion euros and a cash flow of 4.6 billion, figures that allow the Inglostadt brand to plan a future of large investments in the name of electric mobility, a fundamental aspect to remain competitive on the automotive market.

Audi has already started on the right foot, presenting the e-tron GT, and expecting to bring several electrified models already during 2021; we are not just talking about fully electric cars, but also about plug-in hybrid engines which are now very popular on the market. The first to see the light of the road will be the Audi Q4 e-tron and Q4 e-tron Sportback, SUVs that are called to play a pivotal role in the German manufacturer's catalog.

For so many new cars that arrive, there are at least two that are destined - at least for the moment - to disappear from the catalog: we are talking about the A1 and the TT, models that do not weigh particularly in terms of sales on the total calculation, but which instead create various problems as regards the limits on CO2 emissions. Some rumors speak of a possible return of the A1 in a 100% electric version, but for the moment there are no confirmations.

A key step in Audi's electric growth will take place in China, where Audi already has a partnership with the Chinese state-owned FAW Group; Audi will produce the electric cars locally, built on the PPE platform already used for the e-tron GT, to meet the ever-increasing demand for EVs from the Chinese market.
