Intel has postponed production of 3nm GPUs from TSMC

According to what reported by TrendForce Research, Intel would have postponed the production of the “Meteor Lake” tile GPU, through the N3 node of TSMC, to the end of 2023. It is possible that the company has decided to postpone the start of production to directly leverage N3E technology, which promises a more refined process and better yields, albeit at the cost of a slightly lower transistor density.

This choice could affect TSMC's investments in expanding its production capacity on node N3. Intel and Apple were expected to be the first companies to use N3 node in the second half of 2022, with deliveries expected in early 2023. However, other large foundry customers, such as AMD, MediaTek and Qualcomm, will begin using the processes. N3 production (and related evolutions) over the next few months, so the company will still need to expand its capacity to be able to meet the high demand.
