Fiber in the South? Open Fiber will invest 1.7 billion for digitization

Open Fiber, a wholesale only operator of FTTH fiber, is focusing heavily on an ambitious digitization project in Southern Italy for which 800 million euros have already been invested. Mario Rossetti, CEO of the company, talked about it in depth in Bari, during the "The restart" event held on July 16 at the Petruzzelli theater: "Open Fiber is strongly committed to the South with its digitization project", he said Rossetti.

"In the South we have invested 800 million euros, a sum that will double with the completion of the black areas, the integration of the white areas and the development of the gray areas, the latter thanks to the award of lots of the 1 Giga Italia Plan of Puglia, Campania and Sicily ”. - th_mobilelabs_d_mh2_1 slot id: th_mobilelabs_d_mh2 "); }
“A driving force for the Open Fiber project it comes from the South ”, underlines the CEO, who emphasizes the experience of Puglia and Bari in particular. The city is covered by optical fiber "almost in its entirety", and the same can be said of other southern capitals such as Naples, Palermo and Catania, with penetration rates of the ultra-broadband network far above the Italian average.

Still from the Bari stage, Rossetti provides a complete report on the Open Fiber plan for the South, a plan for which a total investment of approximately 1.7 billion is required. "Our goal - he concludes - is to create smart cities and connected villages, giving back to the South a leading role also on a technological level to attract new investments and new professionals".

In this regard, by working in synergy with all the players involved in the digital transition and other infrastructure operators, Open Fiber is creating the conditions for the development of increasingly connected and "smart" cities (not surprisingly, smart cities).
