Microsoft announces the end of the Xbox 360 store

Microsoft announced today that the Xbox 360 Store will officially close on July 29, 2024. After that date, you will not be able to purchase new games, DLC, and “other entertainment content” from the Xbox Store on Xbox 360.

As of July 29, 2024, Xbox will stop supporting the purchase of new games, DLC, and other entertainment content from the Xbox 360 Store on console and the Xbox 360 Marketplace (marketplace.xbox.com)

Related to this change, the Microsoft Movies & TV app will no longer work on Xbox 360, which means TV and movie content will no longer be viewable on your Xbox 360 after July 29, 2024.

Despite the shutdown, you will still be able to play Xbox 360 games and DLC you've already purchased, which includes the ability to re-download that content from future.

  • Will I still be able to play my Xbox 360 games after July 2024?

“Yes, you will still be able to play games you purchased on the Xbox 360. If you purchased the game digitally or have a physical disc, you can still play it. If you've deleted a game you've already purchased but want to play again, you'll still be able to download it again.”
  • What about multiplayer games over the Xbox network? Can I still play with my friends?

“Yes. Even after July 2024, you will still be able to play and connect with friends via multiplayer in the games you purchased, as long as the game's publisher still supports online servers. You will still be able to save your games and progress to the cloud, and if you choose to continue with any of those games available on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, those cloud saves will carry over.”
  • Can I still buy and play backwards compatible Xbox 360 titles?

There will be no changes to buying or playing backwards compatible Xbox 360 titles. After July 29, 2024, you will still be able to purchase hundreds of great Xbox 360 and original Xbox games and DLC backwards on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox.com.”
